U2 Contribute to Charity Project for Haiti

Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz are organising a charity project for victims of the Haiti earthquake.  Dave Fanning aired an interview with Edge today on his RTE 2FM radio show.  Edge said that the band had recorded a new song for the project.

Edge explains how the song came about:

"Last night we wrote a song ... Bono got a call from a producer, Swizz. He and Jay-Z wanted to do something for Haiti. So, Bono came up with the phrase on the phone, and last night we were here, we wrote a song -- finished, recorded, and send it back to them. So, that might be the next thing you hear from us!"

What's not certain is when the next proper U2 album will be out. Fanning asked Edge what direction U2 will go in this year -- more ambient material from Fez? Rick Rubin material? Spider-Man material? Or will there be no album in 2010 and instead wait until 2011? Edge replies: "We're asking ourselves exactly the same questions. We don't really know yet. We're working on material here, and it's sounding amazing, but we're far from being certain about what we're gonna do with it."

Oh dear, time is going by and the likeliehood of an album in 2010 looks less and less likely.  This is not promising at all which is very disappointing but not surprising.

Edge also talked a little about the Glastonbury gig and the 2010 tour plans, read more here

Yeah Hey Hey It's Get On Your Boots (Edge IS On Fire!)

Well I was sitting ready and waiting, cup of tea in hand, in front of my TV for the premiere of Get On Your Boots on RTE 2FM. I was both excited and nervous. Dave Fanning didn't mess around with a big build up thank heavens, he just played the song.

And wow what a song! The first thing that hit me was Edge's fantastic guitar, boy did he rock, absolutely loved it. Bono's singing was strong, rapid fire at a manic pace, hard to catch all the lyrics on first listen, but loved the line "Laughter is eternity if joy is real."

I'm not into all the technicalities of music, but this is a very sonic song, there's a lot going on in it, and there's an industrial feel to it reminiscent of Achtung Baby. This is U2 really rocking, the pace and power of this song took my breath away. Get On Your Boots is going to be a real scorcher live, the best band in the world is most definitely back!

Get On Your Boots can be listened to as often as you like on u2.com

On another note Dave Fanning did mention that the tour would start in June.

First Performance at Dublin O2

Well Bono and Edge did get there first - they have performed at the new O2 venue (due to open offically next week) in Dublin. Irish radio RTÉ 2FM said that they made a surprise appearance there on Sunday night. They performed two songs, Desire and Van Diemen's Land in the empty arena. The performance was filmed and will aired on the programme The View on RTE Television in the near future. They were also interviewed and discussed the new album and the late Ronnie Drew. Unless you are lucky enough to live in Ireland and see the programme on TV, we'll have to look out for this on the Net over the next few weeks.
